POOL FAQ

What is the difference between an above-ground, semi-inground and inground pool?

An above-ground pool installs quickly at a lower cost and can be dismantled easily. A semi-inground pool sits partially below grade, blending better with your landscaping at a mid-range price. An inground pool is a permanent installation, fully recessed into the ground. It’s the most elegant option that adds real property value, but requires a larger investment. The right choice depends on your budget, space and usage.

How much does an above-ground or inground pool cost in Quebec?

Above-ground pool prices vary based on size, shape and included equipment. An inground pool is a more significant investment that depends on dimensions, lining material and excavation work. For an accurate quote tailored to your project in the Vaudreuil-Soulanges region, a direct consultation is the best approach.

What above-ground pool size should I choose for my backyard?

It depends on your available space, number of swimmers and maintenance budget. A 12 to 15-foot diameter works well for smaller yards and families of 2 to 4 people. 18 feet and above offers more comfort for larger families. Keep in mind that municipal regulations typically require minimum setback distances from property lines.

Is a fence required around an above-ground pool in Quebec?

Yes. Provincial law requires a fence of at least 1.2 metres (4 feet) with a self-closing gate. For above-ground pools where the pool wall itself reaches this height, some municipalities accept it as a barrier, provided access to the deck is secured. Regulations vary by municipality in the Vaudreuil-Soulanges area. Always check with your city before installing.

How do I open my pool for the spring season?

Remove and clean the winter cover, reinstall equipment (filter, pump, thermometer), clean the bottom and remove all debris, top up the water if needed, let the water to circulate for 24 hours, then run a full water analysis to adjust pH, alkalinity and chlorine. A shock treatment is recommended at opening.

How do I close my pool for winter?

Close your pool when water temperature drops below 15°C, usually end of October. Balance the water chemistry, add a winterizing product, partially drain below the water inlets, remove and store fragile equipment, then install the winter cover. For inground pools, a professional closing is recommended to prevent freeze damage. Come see us in store for a detailed presentation on closing your pool.

How do I fix green or cloudy pool water?

Green water means algae: shock-treat the pool, add an algaecide designed to kill algae and run the filter continuously for 24 to 48 hours. Cloudy water without a green tint usually points to high pH, a dirty filter, lack of chlorine or organic overload. In both cases, a full water analysis is the right first step.

Which pool robot cleaner do you recommend?

For inground pools, Maytronics and Madimack models deliver excellent results on all surfaces such as concrete, vinyl and fiberglass. For above-ground pools, lighter models designed for flexible walls are available. The best choice depends on your pool shape, surface type and maintenance routine.

What are the options for heating my pool water?

There are three options for heating your pool water. A heat pump is the most cost-effective long-term: it draws heat from the air and extends Quebec’s swimming season, though it’s less efficient below 10°C. A solar cover, placed directly on the water, captures heat from the sun and can raise the temperature by several degrees while reducing evaporation. Finally, a liquid solar cover is added directly to the water and forms an invisible layer on the surface that helps retain heat, ideal as a complement to the other two options.
